Nizwa unveils new visual identity within UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities

Muscat: The Governorate of Nizwa launched its new visual identity as part of its efforts to strengthen its presence within the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Global Network of Learning Cities. This network comprises cities that embrace lifelong learning as a foundation for development, working to develop educational policies, exchange expertise, and build partnerships between cities and educational institutions internationally. The launch was sponsored by Her Excellency Dr. Intisar bint Abdullah Al-Ambusaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Supporting Educational Programs, in the presence of several officials.The launch of the new identity follows the Governorate's joining the global network, a step that supports the Sultanate of Oman's efforts to enhance the presence of its cities on the international stage and benefit from global best practices in lifelong learning. This aligns with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 and the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to quality education and building more inclusive and sustainable cities. The visual identity reflects the Wilayat of Nizwa's commitment to establishing a lifelong learning environment that fosters capacity building, expands learning opportunities, and promotes innovation. This commitment is based on the Wilayat's rich scientific and cultural heritage, as well as the programs and initiatives it implements in partnership with various institutions.His Excellency Sheikh Mahmoud bin Rashid Al-Saadi, Wali of Nizwa, stated that the visual identity of "Nizwa Learning City " represents a framework that reflects the Wilayat's approach to leveraging its scientific and cultural standing to support development and solidify continuous learning as a key enabler for human development and enhancing quality of life.He added that Nizwa's membership in the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities has provided the Wilayat with broader opportunities for collaboration with member cities and for benefiting from international expertise and experiences. This, in turn, supports the development of local initiatives and expands partnerships between government institutions, the private sector, and civil society in areas related to education, innovation, and community development. Since joining the network, the Wilayat has witnessed the implementation of initiatives in areas such as training and qualifying job seekers, supporting entrepreneurship, empowering women, promoting community health, eradicating illiteracy, and caring for people with disabilities. These initiatives are complemented by environmental projects that include expanding the use of clean energy, creating healthy walkways, planting trees, and developing public facilities, reflecting the application of the learning city concept in the fields of economic, social, and environmental development.The visual identity reflects the scientific and cultural standing that the Wilayat of Nizwa has been associated with throughout its history. Its elements are inspired by Nizwa Fort, a symbol of Omani identity and cultural heritage, along with the book and pen, which embody knowledge, learning, and creativity. The color gradient expresses the continuity of the relationship between historical heritage and contemporary development, aligning with the Wilayat's vision of establishing a culture of lifelong learning. The launch of the visual identity represents a new stage in the state’s journey towards developing lifelong learning programs, enhancing its presence within the global network of learning cities, and completing the initiatives that support its readiness to compete for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) award for the best learning city, by highlighting the Omani experience in investing in people and linking knowledge with sustainable development.
