Netanyahu threatens regime change in Iran

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday threatened the Iranian supreme leader, saying he wants to "overthrow the regime in Iran". In a post on X, Netanyahu was quoted as saying during an address to an Israeli army officer course graduation ceremony that "the regime in Iran has still not learned its lesson", accusing new Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei of following "in his father’s footsteps" to develop "the bombs of death". "There is only one way to remove this threat once and for all: overthrow the regime in Iran," he said, adding that this is his directive to the Israeli army and intelligence and security branches. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, today, at the IDF officer course graduation ceremony at Bahad 1: "The regime in Iran has still not learned its lesson. Mojtaba Khamenei, the tyrant du jour, has decided to follow in his father’s footsteps. He has pulled the safety pin, and Iran is attempting once again to develop the bombs of death. There is only one way to remove this threat once and for all: overthrow the regime in Iran. And that is my directive to the IDF, the Mossad, and the security branches." — Prime Minister of Israel (@IsraeliPM) October 21, 2026
