NBI raids ‘illegal gambling’ den disguised as ‘arcade’ in Makati

(Photo: NBI/screengrab) MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has dismantled an illegal gambling establishment disguised as an amusement arcade in Makati City, leading to the arrest of 35 individuals. According to the NBI, 26 of the 35 individuals allegedly involved in the illegal gambling operation are Japanese. The remaining nine are Filipino employees of the supposed arcade at the Goraku Amusement Center located inside The Gallery Building, the bureau also said in a statement on Monday. After confirming the veracity of the complaint, they NBI applied for a search warrant of which, the Makati City Court granted last July 16. Armed with the search warrant, the NBI then conducted a raid. Meanwhile, the bureau’s Office for Transnational Crime Division joined the Dangerous Drugs Division in conducting the operation due to the high number of arrested individuals. During the operation, the NBI agents confiscated 103 illThegal slot machines, special gambling equipment, and payment scheme ledgers. The arrested suspects are currently in the custody of the NBI and are facing criminal charges for allegedly violating Presidential Decree No. 1602, which prescribes stiffer penalties on illegal gambling. /mr Your subscription could not be saved.
