THIS is the terrifying moment a 10ft great white shark lurks just a few feet from unsuspecting kids splashing in the Californian sea. Chilling footage shows a great white shark stalking toward a group of young children who are completely oblivious while swimming in the shallows off the Southern California coast. In the video, as the massive predator drew closer, the kids remained completely oblivious to the danger swimming just feet away. Sign up for The Sun newsletter Thank you! Gauna said: “I don’t often get nervous but this was one of those instances where I did. “When it involves kids I do get nervous and that shark was a lot bigger than those kids. Gauna uses drones to document shark behaviour and at the time of filming was over a mile away from the swimmers. His video serves as a reminder to stay vigilant in the water. Most read in The Sun Heatwaves and Super El Niño conditions are creating a “perfect storm”, warns Dr. Chris Lowe, director of the CSU Shark Lab. Unprecedented water temperatures could drive great whites closer to shore, alongside other unpredictable species such as tiger, bull, and hammerhead sharks. He said: “I always tell people that if they spend any amount of time in the water off Southern California, I guarantee a white shark swam by you and you didn’t even know it.” As warmer weather pushes more people into the sea at the exact moment shark numbers peak along the coast, the likelihood of attacks could be on the rise. It comes as a great white shark hunted a pair of paddleboarders in California. Terrifying footage showed the predator preparing to ravage Robert Kagan and Kayla Ross as they furiously rowed in the opposite direction. In April, a 10ft great white was seen feeding just feet away from swimmers near LA. Lifeguards spotted the roughly 10-foot-long great white shark ripping into a sea lion close to the shore at Huntington Beach. Officials said the shark was exhibiting “aggressive behaviour”. Earlier this year New South Wales, Australia, saw five shark attacks in January – four of which occurred in a 48 hour period. The attacks sparked panic along the coast as swimmers were being urged to stay out of the water. One attacks saw 11-year-old Nico Antic tragically mauled to death after he jumped off rocks at a Vaucluse beach in Sydney. 1 comment1
