Man fighting for life after being repeatedly stabbed in ‘shocking and brutal’ attack as passersby chase off knifeman

A MAN has been left fighting for his life after a reportedly “shocking and brutal” stabbing in a residential street. The victim, 37, was saved from further injury by brave passersby who chased the knifeman away before police arrived. He was reportedly stabbed a number of times just after 7.30pm on Saturday on Weir Road in Balham – a residential suburb in southwest London. Police raced to the scene near Clapham Park and found the man with stab wounds and treated him with first aid. Sign up for The Sun newsletter Thank you! Paramedics then arrived and rushed the victim to hospital where he remains in a critical condition. The Metropolitan Police is understood to be seeking a male suspect who was chased away by members of the public. Detective Superintendent Gareth Gilbert said: “This was a shocking and brutal attack, carried out in broad daylight on a residential street. “Our officers are working quickly to identify and arrest the attacker and it is imperative that anyone with information should come forward immediately. “We recognise this incident will be deeply disturbing to the local community and want to reassure residents that they can expect to see an increased number of officers in the area over the coming days. “We would also like to pay tribute to the members of the public who bravely chased the suspect away from the scene while he was still armed.” Most read in The Sun The force urged anyone with information to call the police on 101, quoting CAD 6708/18Jul, or report anonymously through Crimestoppers.
