Man driving stolen vehicle killed in head-on crash

A man who stole two cars has been killed after colliding with other vehicles in Melbourne overnight. The 46-year-old man from Melton was driving a stolen white Subaru on the wrong side of the road when he collided with two other cars near Punt Road and Boulton Parade about 9pm, according to police. The man then got out of the Subaru and got into one of the vehicles he had collided with, a Mustang. The driver of the Mustang was not inside the car at the time and was uninjured, police reported.Police said the man then drove the Mustang erratically onto Barassi Way in East Melbourne, colliding head on with two more vehicles — a Range Rover and a Toyota Camry — which resulted in him being ejected from the Mustang and dying at the scene. The woman driving the Range Rover sustained an arm injury and was taken to hospital, but the other motorist was uninjured. The Subaru initially driven by the man was stolen from Glen Iris on August 20, according to police, and was bearing false numberplates.Brunton Avenue was closed to traffic while police examined the scene.Anyone who witnessed the collision or who has dash-cam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online.
