Mamdani hates everybody — which is why his mayoralty is doomed

Rookie mistakes or intentional insults? Either way, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is alienating ethnicity after ethnicity in the Big Apple, America’s most tribal and least forgiving electorate. In so doing, he is sowing the seeds of his own political demise by creating a playbook on how to destroy him and the anti-American cabal of so-called “Democratic Socialists” for which he stands.Mamdani started with the Jews; no surprise there. He refused to march in the Salute to Israel parade because, as Alan Dershowitz put it, the only person our pro-criminal, anti-police mayor really wants to arrest is Benjamin Netanyahu. And then he somehow prevailed upon New York Mets owner, wannabe casino magnate, and political supplicant Steve Cohen to cancel the long-standing Salute to Jewish Culture night at Citi Field. MAMDANI’S TOUGH TALK EXPOSED AS DECEPTIVE VIRTUE SIGNALINGThe only Jews Mamdani can count on are those ignorant enough about their own heritage and world history to think that socialism could possibly work in Brooklyn and Queens. And shame on them for their willingness to give political power to a sworn enemy of the Jewish state in exchange for the ultimately empty promise of free stuff.Next up for insults, the Italians. Everybody knows that many of the best restaurants in New York can be found in Manhattan’s Little Italy. Somehow, when Mamdani’s City Hall was making a map of ethnic enclaves for World Cup visitors, Chinatown, and even “Little Palestine” made the grade. But not Little Italy. It’s nowhere to be found. Was that Mamdani’s go-o-o-al, to insult every Italian American in the city by leaving it off the World Cup map? Looks like Zohran is not a calzone and red-checked tablecloth kind of guy.Next, the Latino community has come in for more than its fair share of abuse. First, Hizzoner refused to march in the Puerto Rican Day Parade, for reasons known only to his mayoral self. In addition, the mayor’s planning to drop $35 million to build a city-owned grocery store in Harlem, within blocks of multiple mom-and-pop-owned bodegas. Cheap city milk and bread will kill those stores dead. By the way, since theft is apparently no longer a crime in Mamdani’s five boroughs, who is to stop people from coming into Zohran‘s Delights and taking the five-finger discount on everything on the shelves? To make things worse, the Democratic Socialists of America just destroyed the career of Adriano Espaillat (D-NY), the longtime congressman from New York’s heavily Dominican 13th district, tossing away all that seniority and clout in exchange for a Dominican tyro who says she despises the Dominican flag (and the Stars and Stripes, too). Espaillat runs Congress’s Hispanic Caucus, a huge benefit to New York’s Latino community, at least until Zohran came to town.Gracias para nada, El Mejor!Mamdani also can’t spare a thought for the Irish, who have devoted generations to public service, putting their lives on the line as police officers and firefighters to keep the rest of us safe. He hates the police. That much we knew from his social media feed. In addition, Irish New Yorkers asked the mayor his position on Irish unification, a subject of vital interest in the community, and he brushed the question off like crumbs on his lapel, telling them he hadn’t had time to give the matter any thought. On top of that, at the St. Patrick’s Day parade, Mamdani conflated the question of Irish independence with that of … you guessed it … Gaza. The Irish were insulted that he hijacked the parade to make political hay over his pet issue.Black people aren’t Mamdani fans, either. Not when he put down “African American” as his ethnicity on his college application and then failed, once elected, to appoint any black deputy mayors. So if Mamdani’s so cynically dismissive of almost all of New York’s ethnic groups, how do he and his candidates keep on winning? The answer is simple. When it comes to New York primaries, pretty much nobody cares, and pretty much nobody votes … except for the Democratic Socialists of America. They don’t have to run popular candidates. They just have to be better organized than everybody else when it comes to getting out the vote. And that’s why they win, from AOC to DAC (that’s Darializa Avila Chevalier, the Dominican Congresswoman-in-waiting who actually said she uses the Dominican and U.S. flags as napkins). The good news: this same Mamdani’s playbook can be used to take him and his clown car of socialists down to the ground. It’s time for a coalition of New York’s ignored, insulted, and demeaned ethnic groups, who form most of the city’s population, to join hands and form a voting bloc strong enough to restore democracy to New York. They can run centrist candidates who won’t be intent on destroying democracy.MAYOR MAMDANI, WHY DID YOU ERASE LITTLE ITALY?And then they must out-organize Zohran‘s overeducated, underpaid army of willing idiots to get out the vote and thus take back the city.In politics, winning isn’t everything. Serving the people, all the people, not just your fellow socialist travelers, is what matters. And since Mamdani has no interest in doing that, and neither do his parade of horribles running for office in New York and beyond, it’s time to kick all of them to the curb, where they belong. I hear Gaza’s looking for a new mayor. I know just the guy.Michael Levin is a two-time New York Times bestselling author.
