Girl math = families now have more money to spend on holiday (Picture: Shutterstock / NFstock) If you’re planning a family holiday, you might want to take note of a new offer from easyJet. Gone are the days of a flight to Prague costing £12. Holiday costs are spiralling, with air fares predicted to go up by 20% next year. One often-overlooked fee is the price of a passport. You might only have to renew it every 10 years, but when you do, it’s not cheap. An adult passport topped £100 for the first time earlier this year, now costing £102. Meanwhile, a child’s passport sets parents back £66.50 (and even then, they need to be replaced every five years). Apply for it at the Post Office with a paper form, and it jumps to £80. But now, EasyJet is offering families travelling with them £66.50, effectively covering the cost of a child’s passport. EasyJet wants to take some financial pressure off young families (Picture: Getty Images) Stuart Wright, customer director at easyJet Holidays, said of the new initiative: ‘Travel has a unique way of bringing families together, and a baby’s very first holiday is often one of those moments parents remember for years to come. ‘By covering the cost of a baby’s first passport, we’re helping more families start making those memories that little bit sooner.’ Who exactly is the promotion available to, and how can you claim it? The promotion is offered to infants up to 18 months old, as the idea is to pay for their first passport. And of course, the offer is only available to families who book an easyJet holiday. So, parents with kids a little older — even if it is the first time they’ve travelled abroad — will still have to deal with this extra financial burden. Typically, passports take three weeks to arrive; therefore, families planning on making use of this deal should act quickly, as the promotion ends on November 26 at 11pm. Details on how to claim the offer can be found on easyJet’s website. Beware of the 18-month-old cap (Picture: Shutterstock / PeopleImages.com – Yuri A) Why is easyJet doing this? EasyJet pilot Kate West said that, every year, the airline carries millions of families across Europe, and that ‘travelling with a baby brings a whole series of exciting firsts.’ The promotion follows research from easyJet and easyJet holidays, which found a 10% increase in infants travelling this year compared to last. The survey also concluded that 75% of parents said covering the price of their baby’s first passport would make holidays feel more affordable. Not to mention easier — the airline revealed that 36% of parents said actually getting their child’s passport can be a struggle in itself. The world is literally your family’s oyster (Picture: Shutterstock / Ian Sidlow) Data showed that it took parents four attempts on average to secure an approved photograph of their child, while almost one in 10 couples didn’t even realise their baby needed a passport. Commenting on the promotion, West added that easyJet wants to ‘make travel as easy and accessible as possible for everyone, including young families, so they can enjoy all the experiences and memories that travel can bring. ‘We hope that covering the cost of a baby’s first passport goes a small way towards making that first family adventure a little easier and gives our youngest travellers a warm welcome to the world.’ Our Top Shopping Picks See London's Christmas lights from an open-top double-decker bus this winter My skin always suffers when the heating goes on but this serum changed that The skincare formula that finally took the guesswork out of my routine Families can save up to 20% on summer 2027 holidays in Club Med's four-day sale Cold mornings are coming and this is the dressing gown I want to live in Arrow MORE: Airline launches first-ever kid-free flights — with complimentary booze Arrow MORE: Three cars caught driving the wrong way down A66 months after fatal collision Arrow MORE: ‘Bare beaters’ face a £1,000 fine for blasting music on British public transport The Getaway Expert Your exclusive seven-day guide to travelling with confidence from Metro's resident travel expert, Alice Murphy.
