Macaulay Culkin reportedly in talks for new ‘Home Alone’ film

Macaulay Culkin is reportedly in talks for a new Home Alone movie. Released in 1990, Home Alone Culkin stars as eight-year-old Kevin McCallister, who is accidentally left at home by his family who have gone away on holiday during the festive period, leaving him to fend for himself against a criminal duo of burglars. Home Alone 2: Lost In New York was released two years later to much success. The franchise is made up of six films but only the first two received were well received. Now, despite distancing himself from the role many years, Culkin recently said he “wouldn’t be completely allergic” to returning to his role as Kevin McCallister in a Home Alone sequel. He added, however, that “it would have to be just right” before pitching an idea for a sequel. “I kind of had this idea,” Culkin said (as per Variety). “I’m either a widower or a divorcee. I’m raising a kid and all that stuff. I’m working really hard and I’m not really paying enough attention and the kid is kind of getting miffed at me and then I get locked out. [Kevin’s son] won’t let me in…and he’s the one setting traps for me.” Recommended Now, according to entertainment journalist Matt Belloni on his latest episode of The Town podcast, Culkin was recently spotted at Disney and they are keen to take up his idea for a new movie. “Macaulay Culkin is having his ass kissed like nobody’s business,” Belloni said. “They’re offering him another movie, like he could do his own passion project, if he would also do another Home Alone. [He has] a good idea. “I’ve talked to people who have heard it, and it’s a really good idea for a Home Alone reboot with Macaulay Culkin. If that happens and they restart the Home Alone franchise, that would be gigantic for the next 10 years. Because that movie, as you know, is perennially top of the streaming lists from October through Christmas.” Culkin is yet to comment or confirm his return to the franchise publicly. Home Alone was the second highest-grossing film of 1990, earning $476million (£359million) worldwide. The director behind the first two Home Alone films, Chris Columbus, previously shot down rumours of a reboot, saying that he thinks the whole thing would be a “mistake”. “I think Home Alone really exists as, not at this timepiece, but it was this very special moment, and you can’t really recapture that,” Columbus said in an interview last summer with Entertainment Tonight. “I think it’s a mistake to try to go back and recapture something we did 35 years ago. I think it should be left alone.”
