The unlikely spat erupted after Charlie offered his opinion on Oasis, and it’s fair to say Gallagher wasn’t particularly interested in constructive criticism. It all started when Charlie responded to a post on X asking users to settle one of British music’s seemingly eternal arguments: are Oasis overhyped, or are they genuinely one of the greatest bands ever? Lawson, who played Jim McDonald on and off between 1989 and 2018, didn’t exactly sit on the fence. ‘They are distinctly average,’ he wrote. That might have been the end of it, except Liam Gallagher saw the comment. Just a few hours later, the Oasis frontman delivered a characteristically blunt response, writing: ‘Like your f***ing acting skills.’ And somehow, things only escalated from there. Meanwhile, Liam continued discussing the former Corrie star with other users. When someone questioned Charlie’s acting credentials, Liam replied: ‘Actor in his f***ing dreams.’ Another user pointed out that Liam appeared to be ‘going for everyone today’, prompting an even less diplomatic response from the singer. ‘He’s had it coming for a long time silly old c***,’ Liam wrote. So there we have it: one of Britain’s most famous rock stars is now apparently embroiled in beef with Jim McDonald from Coronation Street. Charlie, 67, became one of the soap’s most recognisable faces after arriving on the cobbles alongside Beverley Callard, who played Jim’s wife Liz McDonald. Simon Gregson and Nicholas Cochrane played their sons Steve and Andy. Jim’s turbulent time in Weatherfield included prison sentences, alcoholism and the breakdown of his marriage to Liz. Lawson made his final appearance in 2018, with the character later being killed off-screen in Belfast in 2026. Lawson has not taken on acting roles since 2018, when he suffered a minor stroke while performing on stage. As for Liam Gallagher, arguing on X is hardly unfamiliar territory. The latest exchange comes shortly after he hit back at Oasis fans complaining about ticket prices for the band’s next run of shows. Oasis are heading back on the road in 2027 following their hugely successful reunion, with 38 concerts planned across the UK and Ireland, Europe and the US. After tickets went on sale for prices ranging from £71.50 to £266.60, some fans complained online about the cost. Liam’s response was typically concise: ‘STOP MOANING.’ When another fan raised the issue of resellers asking for ‘extortionate prices’, Liam replied: ‘Don’t f***ing buy them SIMPLE.’ For now, though, forget Oasis versus Blur.
