Liam Gallagher has reacted to the “cuckoo” World Cup halftime show. READ MORE: Liam Gallagher: “I sound good. I look cool. I talk from the heart” The Oasis frontman has given his thoughts on the first ever World Cup halftime show, which took place yesterday (July 19). At the World Cup final, Spain triumphed over Argentina to win 1-0. Curated by Coldplay‘s Chris Martin, Madonna, BTS, Justin Bieber, Shakira and Burna Boy performed during the show. The Muppets, Ronaldo and Ronaldinho also made appearances throughout. Now, Gallagher has taken to Twitter to react to the halftime show. “This is like a bad trip”, he wrote at first; when a fan said Oasis would have “smashed” the show instead, he replied: “It’s not about us well it is but still it’s absolutely insane behavior it’s cuckoo with a capital K”. “It’s a good job I’ve got my spiritual socks on or that halftime entertainment could have tipped me over the edge”, he later quipped. Despite this, Gallagher did say he enjoyed Justin Bieber’s unusually lowkey performance of ‘Everything Hallelujah’. “Justin rules”, he wrote during the performance, and when one person pondered: “Who thought Justin Bieber playing some acoustic Hallelujah song was going to slap??”, Gallagher enthusiastically replied: “ME”. He ended the night by congratulating Spain for their performance, adding: “Best team won”. Pundit and former England footballer Wayne Rooney slammed the show as “crap”. “I like a lot of them artists but I thought it was crap,” he said on the night. “It just didn’t get me going and I wanted the football to come back on. I like Burna Boy, I like Bieber, I like Shakira, but that was too flat.” Previously, Gallagher said he was “ready” for a World Cup ‘Wonderwall’ performance if England reached final. The classic 1995 Oasis track has become the unofficial soundtrack for the England team at the World Cup this year, with Harry Kane and co. coming together at the end of their recent matches to sing it with fans in the crowd. Noel Gallagher also threw his support behind the England team adopting the track, saying the song “belongs to the people”. He also admitted that he “couldn’t believe” that Jude Bellingham really knew the lyrics. Meanwhile, The Cure‘s Robert Smith has said he isn’t looking forward to the halftime show. In an Instagram post uploaded on July 16, he posted a description of what the halftime show would promising, following it with: “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH… #Breadandcircuses #MUGWANK #pleasejustfuckoff.” He later clarified his remarks, writing: “For those of us not quite getting it: the point is not really about who is curating or performing, it is about the #mugwank ideas of a football World Cup final half time show,” he wrote. He added that “Infantosser has said he and US President Trumpton will small hand over [the] trophy on Sunday. Sadly, there are not enough a’s left for the ‘argh’ that should follow… #breadandcircuses #pleasejustfuckoff #fuckfifa #justlookup.”
