LEWIS Capaldi has beefed up security at his £1.6m Scottish mansion after a row with a neighbour. The singer purchased the stunning farmhouse property near Glasgow back in 2020 before being granted permission to make alterations to it. He’s also applied to his local council for a “change of use” of an office to be turned into a two-bedroom flat for guests to stay over. The proposed flat will have a lounge, kitchen and dining room with a triple garage below for his collection of motors. Officials at the local council are expected to make a decision on the office conversion next month and there have so far been no objections from neighbours. The Sun have contacted Lewis’ representatives for a comment. It comes after he won his battle with a neighbour to build a 6ft-high wooden boundary fence around the grounds. Most read in Showbiz The cameras are being put up at the property Credit: Les Gallagher Lewis purchased the property back in 2020 Credit: HERALD SCOTLAND In a letter to the council, the objector wrote: “Whilst we fully understand the applicant’s desire for security and privacy, there are several significant factors we strongly oppose. “The oppressive height of the fence, the proximity of the fence, the standard of finish and appearance and the lack of maintenance access to ground between the properties. “Our hope would be that approval should be rejected and that work to relocate and alter the height should be completed without delay. “If required, we would hope to engage in constructive discussion with the applicant.” Lewis purchased the property in 2020 after fellow musician Ed Sheeran scoured the internet to look for a home for him. However, after moving into the rural pad on the outskirts of Glasgow, he discovered the place smelled of cigarette smoke and dog, thus being labelled a “hell hole”. The Someone You Loved singer also found a bag of frogs in the house and quickly decided to move to a flat in Glasgow. Ed, 35, quickly made clear that Capaldi had viewed the house himself before buying it. He said: “I just want to say that I didn’t just send him one house, I sent him a bunch and he went to view them. “He didn’t just ring them up and say ‘I’ll take it’. He went to view it. “I said to him ‘You need to start thinking of what your forever home is going to be, find something you can do up and make into your forever home’. “I imagine it’s not great. He said he found a shopping bag of live frogs in it. Speaking on US radio, he added: “Honestly, if it does make him feel better then I will buy the house off him. “If he wants me to buy it, then why not?” Lewis jokingly said back in 2022: “Ed Sheeran told me to buy this house and it’s an absolute hell hole. Ed Sheeran should technically reimburse me for the money I’m having to pay on this. “Ed is a property tycoon but he’s never bought a place in Scotland obviously because mine is awful.” Lewis then undertook extensive renovations to the property as he converted the old stables into a gym and exercise rooms.
