Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Remake New Content Officially Confirmed

For a game that comes out in a little over a month, we've seen surprisingly little of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Nintendo showed off a short sampling of gameplay at a recent Direct, but it left us with more questions than answers. Although critiques of the remake's art style were some of the loudest and most widespread, many fans also found themselves wondering whether Ocarina of Time would be a 1:1 remake — that is, functionally identical to the original game with only quality-of-life improvements — or whether it'd change things more significantly. Although the Direct didn't provide any explicit answers, some fans think they've now noticed details that suggest new content could actually be coming in the remake. One of these details is confirmed, while the other remains speculative — but either way, it's a good sign for some real changes coming to Ocarina of Time. For one thing, the Ocarina of Time remake has already confirmed at least one piece of DLC: two Amiibo figurines, launching alongside the remake, can be tapped on the Switch's NFC reader to unlock a pair of in-game masks. One is modeled after the original N64 Link, and the other after N64 Zelda. Of course, these could be entirely cosmetic, but there may be a little more at play here. In the original Ocarina of Time, and even more so its direct sequel, Majora's Mask, wearable masks are actually part of the gameplay. Putting on a mask changes how NPCs respond to you, and collecting certain masks is a vital part of progressing quests. So, it's entirely possible that these DLC masks will have some kind of concrete effect on the Ocarina's remake. It's not likely to be anything earthshaking, since it's tied to a collectible that's only available for separate purchase, but it still suggests the remake won't be a perfect 1:1 with the original game. In addition, YouTuber Andres Restart noticed something else compelling: there are a few extra item slots on the Ocarina of Time remake's inventory screen (spotted by CBR). One of these is filled with an extra empty bottle, while the other two are empty: one appears to go next to the Deku Nut, and the other is a square-shaped slot that doesn't appear anywhere else in the menu. CBR speculated that the slot next to the Deku Nut could be a similar item; perhaps one that distracts enemies instead of stunning them, adding a stealth element to the game. The other slot, though, remains a mystery. Could The Ocarina Of Time Remake Include A New Dungeon? Some fans have theorized that the Lens of Truth could go in the extra empty slot, which is certainly possible. A more interesting theory, though, notes that if there's an extra item in the remake, there's also liable to be an extra dungeon for Link to get it in. Therefore, it's been suggested that the Ocarina of Time remake could restore the explorable version of the Temple of Light, which was originally intended for and ultimately cut from the Nintendo 64 release. It was replaced, instead, by the single-room Chamber of Sages, which pops up during certain cutscenes. Of course, this all remains speculative for the moment; however, the mere existence of these item slots, and the extra bottle, proves that the Ocarina remake isn't a perfect 1:1 with the original game. There'll certainly be some minor differences, at the very least: that extra bottle and extra item have to come from somewhere. The question is just how much of a departure Nintendo's remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will be, but that'll have to wait until November.
