Kentucky LHP Toby Peterson transfers to UIC

Some moving and shaking is still going on in college baseball free agency. Kentucky is still adding to the roster. Former Kentucky players are looking for new college homes. A UK pitcher is headed back home. Left-handed relief pitcher Toby Peterson went one-and-done in Lexington. The Greater Chicago native is now returning home. Peterson has committed to the University of Illinois Chicago and will continue his college baseball career in the Missouri Valley Conference. Peterson appeared in six games for Kentucky this season and posted a 21.60 ERA and 3.60 WHIP across 1.2 innings with two strikeouts and six free passes. Efficiently attacking the strike zone was a problem early for Peterson in his career. Now will look to develop close to home. The transfer has four years of eligibility remaining based on the NCAA’s recently passed 5-for-5 eligibility model. Improving pitching depth was a top goal for the Kentucky program this offseason. Peterson was one of six players who entered the portal that logged bullpen innings for the Bat Cats in 2026. UK has replaced them with a strong high school signing class and a transfer portal haul that includes LHP Kale Hammer (Seattle), RHP Logan Hastings (Maryland), RHP PJ Craig (Rider), and RHP Mason Snyder (Western Carolina).
