Several roads across the national capital will witness restrictions and diversions, particularly for heavy transport vehicles (HTVs), from July 29 to August 12, 2026.The Kanwar Yatra officially begins on July 30, the first day of the holy month of Shravan, and concludes on August 11 (Chaturdashi Tithi). A large number of Kanwariyas are expected to pass through Delhi en route to Haryana and Rajasthan after collecting holy Ganga water from Haridwar, Gangotri Dham and Gaumukh.WHY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS HAVE BEEN IMPOSEDTo facilitate the safe movement of Kanwariyas and maintain uninterrupted traffic flow, Delhi Police has imposed restrictions on the movement of heavy transport vehicles on major routes, including Wazirabad Road, GT Road, Vikas Marg and adjoining roads.The restrictions will remain in force from July 29 to August 12, 2026.ROADS LIKELY TO BE AFFECTEDMotorists should expect congestion and diversions on the following stretches:GT Road: Apsara Border to Yamuna Bridge and vice versaAsha Ram Tyagi Marg (Road No. 66): Babarpur T-Point to Seelampur T-PointWazirabad Road: Bhopura Border to Signature BridgePusta Road: Sonia Vihar to Wazirabad RoadLoni Road: Loni Border to Loni Gol Chakkar FlyoverCommuters travelling through these routes are advised to plan their journeys accordingly.HEAVY VEHICLES TO FACE DIVERSIONSThe advisory primarily affects heavy transport vehicles entering or passing through Delhi.Heavy vehicles entering Delhi from Uttar Pradesh and heading towards destinations within Uttar Pradesh will not be allowed to enter through Maharajpur Border, Apsara/Seemapuri Border, DLF Border, Bhopura Border, Loni Border, Pusta Road and Sonia Vihar Border.Similarly, heavy vehicles entering through Pusta Road and Sonia Vihar Border for East, North-East and Shahdara districts will be diverted via Wazirabad Road, Outer Ring Road and NH-9.Vehicles approaching from GT Karnal Road and Outer Ring Road towards East Delhi, North-East Delhi and Shahdara will also be redirected towards NH-9 instead of Wazirabad Road, GT Road or Vikas Marg.Meanwhile, heavy vehicles travelling from Delhi towards Uttar Pradesh will be diverted through NH-9 or NH-44.WHO IS EXEMPT FROM THE RESTRICTIONS?The restrictions apply to heavy transport vehicles. However, city buses have been exempted and will continue operating on their designated routes.ADVICE FOR COMMUTERSDelhi Traffic Police has urged commuters to avoid the affected routes during peak hours and use alternative roads wherever possible.
