A bench of Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia held that Wangchuk was entitled to receive treatment at a hospital of his choice under his fundamental rights guaranteed by Articles 19 and 21 of the Constitution.Wangchuk was discharged from Safdarjung Hospital at around 6.40 pm and shifted to Medanta Hospital under tight security, arriving at around 7.30 pm. He was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU), where he is undergoing treatment under the supervision of internal medicine specialist Dr Sushila Kataria, as per PTI reports. The court directed Medanta Hospital to constitute a team of specialist doctors to continuously monitor Wangchuk's condition and administer treatment in accordance with accepted medical protocols. In a statement, Safdarjung Hospital said Wangchuk was discharged after being handed over to the Medanta medical team along with all relevant medical records to ensure continuity of care."At the time of discharge, his vital parameters were stable. However, pancytopenia persists, and his serum potassium level was 3.4 mEq/L," the hospital said.Following the court's order, Gurugram Police stepped up security around Medanta Hospital, deploying additional personnel in and around the premises.Hospital officials said Wangchuk would remain in the intensive care unit overnight as doctors continue to monitor his condition.- EndsPublished By: Shipra ParasharPublished On: Jul 22, 2026 08:37 IST
