Sign in to your ScreenRant account With the recent success of both Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) and Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey (2026), Jon Bernthal's star power continues to rise. Frank Castle/ The Punisher remains one of his most memorable roles, but he has also appeared in projects like The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), Sicario (2015), The Accountant (2016), and The Bear. Even with some impressive credits, however, Bernthal hasn't yet reached the level of Brad Pitt, who remains one of Hollywood's most recognizable movie stars. So far, the two actors have only worked together once, and the film is now experiencing a resurgence. 12 years after its release in theaters, Fury has returned to become a win with audiences. On Apple TV, the Pitt and Bernthal-starring film ranks as the fifth most popular title in the U.S., falling behind some notable releases while dominating others. Bernthal & Pitt's Fury Is Back To Dominate Apple TV Directed by David Ayer, Fury puts Pitt front and center as Don "Wardaddy" Collier, a tank commander leading his crew across Germany in the final days of World War II. Bernthal plays a supporting role as Grady "Coon-Ass" Travis, with Logan Lerman, Shia LaBeouf, and Michael Peña rounding out the rest of the cast. The film currently beats Palmer (2021); F1: The Movie (2025); I, Robot (2004); Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003); and The Dink (2026) on Apple TV's streaming top 10. The recent release of Heart of the Beast (2026), another collaboration between Pitt and Ayer, is likely a major reason for Fury's return to popularity. Heart of the Beast sees Pitt playing a Special Forces veteran forced to survive in the Alaskan wilderness after a plane crash, and has been warmly received by audiences. It's unclear, however, whether this reception will be enough to push Fury further up Apple TV's charts to beat Good Will Hunting (1997); It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1996); Mayday (2026); and The Last First: Winter K2 (2026). The WWII Thriller Remains A Rare Outing For Bernthal RobinLori/INSTARimages.com For Bernthal, Fury still stands as something of an outlier. The film remains one of his only ventures exploring World War II other than a small role in HBO's The Pacific TV series. Fury also marks Bernthal's only collaboration with Pitt, and his only collaboration with Ayer. It may not end up being the last, however, as Fury has a respectable 75% on Rotten Tomatoes and grossed $211 million worldwide, making it a success. It remains to be seen how Fury will perform on Apple TV in the days and weeks ahead, but Pitt's latest film and Bernthal's growing star power have helped to make the Ayer-directed World War II movie an even more interesting film to return to. Though it's not clear whether the trio will ever reunite for another project, the 2014 flick is evidently proving popular with audiences. Release Date October 17, 2014 Runtime 135 Minutes Director David Ayer
