Can you two elaborate, I don’t need to know who your quoting, just WHY they believe that. I feel like there are big question marks on OL, DL, and LB; what am I not seeing that people inside the building see? Does this version have the leadership and dedication of last years team? I see more video’s on X that look like So Beach than the weight room. CaneSport’s Response: We will start with Gary’s take in the thread … he responded “That’s been more a fan thing. I don’t know of anybody inside the program making any statements like that nor should they be. This team has done nothing yet. Really the program has not won anything yet. There is zero point in comparing teams until at least the last game has been played this season and we see where it goes.” And now it’s time for Matt’s (sorry for the third person) take. I have not directly heard any player or coach say this year’s team would beat last year’s, but I have heard that people close to the program have the belief that this team is indeed better. And certainly it should be on offense … arguably this should look a lot more like the production from a Cam Ward offense than the lumbering one we saw last year when the team really was defense-drive. But it’s the defense that will determine everything. It’s going to be tough to replicate that top 5 scoring defense after losing guys named Bain, Mesidor, Scott and Thomas. But there is the potential for this to again be a really dominant group led by maybe the best DT tandem in the ACC with Ahmad Moten and Justin Scott, plus the addition of pass rushing beast Damon Wilson. Linebacker you have back top tackler Mo Toure, and the secondary has back a lot of pieces and BC standout transfer Omar Thornton was a bigtime addition. So my personal opinion is that this year’s team would beat last year’s. But, as Gary says, we have to wait to see if that’s a correct assumption. As with any year that nets a national title appearance, a lot has to go right.
