Throughout its run, the series has drawn inspiration from real-world headlines and cases. Although Law & Order: SVU season 28 is still a bit away, filming is officially underway. Series star Ice-T confirmed on X that production has begun with the first behind-the-scenes image for the show on July 22, 2026. The actor and musician, who will be reprising his role as Sergeant Odafin "Fin" Tutuola, posted a picture of himself on Instagram with Mariska Hargitay, who plays Captain Olivia Benson, from the first day of filming. Earlier this month, Ice-T offered some very good news about his role on the show. The actor, who made his debut as Fin 26 years ago in Law & Order: SVU season 2, revealed that he will have a more involved role in season 28. In an interview with TMZ, he explained that he will appear in every single episode of the upcoming installment of the hit procedural drama after only being on the show part-time in season 27. The update also diminishes the concerns of fans who were afraid that Ice-T might be leaving Law & Order: SVU. During Season 27, Fin appeared in fewer episodes than he would during his 26-year run. And, after the character suffered a violent attack, many speculated that the star was being written out after nearly 30 years on the series.
