Human traffickers in Oman face fines of up to OMR100,000

MUSCAT: Oman has strengthened penalties against human trafficking, with offenders facing fines of up to OMR100,000 and lengthy prison terms under the Law on Combating Human Trafficking issued by Royal Decree No. 78/2025.The law prescribes three to 10 years' imprisonment and fines ranging from OMR5,000 to OMR100,000 for those convicted of human trafficking offences. Penalties become more severe in aggravated cases, with prison terms increasing to seven to 15 years if the crime involves children, is committed by an organized criminal group, or involves a public official.In addition to imprisonment and fines, courts may order the confiscation of assets and tools used in the crime and suspend the operations of companies found liable for involvement in human trafficking.The penalties were highlighted by the Royal Oman Police ahead of World Day Against Trafficking in Persons on July 30, reaffirming the Sultanate's commitment to protecting victims, prosecuting offenders, and combating all forms of human trafficking.
