How To Romance Anca In The Blood of Dawnwalker

Anca is the first romance option you'll encounter in The Blood of Dawnwalker because she's the only one who appears in the prologue before Coen ever becomes a Dawnwalker. That said, you do have a lot to do in a short amount of time before the first Blood Mass, so there is a chance you miss her altogether if you never bother trying to get medicine for your mother. If you do visit her, however, you'll have an opportunity to make the most of this encounter and begin planting the seeds for a future romance. From there, you'll need to nurture your relationship with Anca, and if you do, you'll unlock her romance scene soon enough. How To Romance Anca Before you even get the chance to meet Anca, your siblings will tease you for having a crush on her, which is a bit of a clue to the fact that she might be a romanceable option for Coen, and one he's already smitten with. To reach Anca's romance scene, which is the peak of her and Coen's relationship, you'll need to complete several quests tied directly to her. Some of them will also help you advance to the main objective of defeating Brencis. However, they're primarily there to share Anca's backstory and gradually build up the relationship between the two characters. The first of these quests begins in the prologue, and the rest can be completed at your discretion, though you may need to wait until you've leveled up, as most of her quests will involve fights with tough enemies. Aside from intentionally rejecting Anca, the only way to ensure the romance doesn't happen is if you visit her while hungry and accidentally kill her. Otherwise, as long as you do the quests and encourage flirting, the romance scene should be more or less guaranteed. The Prologue As mentioned, Anca's first encounter is during the prologue. When you go to retrieve medicine for your mother, you'll find Anca kneeling by the river behind her house. Approach her to explain why you're there, and then head inside the house to grab the medicine. She'll mention an upcharge, but you can counter at the usual price, which she'll understand. Anca's prologue scene can eat up a lot of your time before the Blood Mass, so ensure this is what you want to do. From there, it'll begin to rain, and you'll have the option to leave or stay and study Latin with her. Obviously, you'll want to stay, despite the additional time cost. At this point, Anca will begin rummaging through books for the two of you to read, and you'll want to ask about the book with the red cover. Anca will make several attempts to suggest the book is inappropriate, but if you keep insisting that it sounds more interesting, she'll eventually agree and grab the red book. Turns out the red book is mostly poems about lovers, and Anca will help Coen translate a poem about a thousand kisses. This poem will actually be referenced during the romance scene later. Just as things are starting to get a little too intense, the storm will kick up outside, and Anca will beg you to save her herbs in the building next door. Run outside and grab all the herbs from the building next to hers. Make sure you get them all. While you're doing this, Anca will yell out in pain. When you go back outside, you'll see that she's fallen near her steps and needs help getting inside. Her back will be severely cut up, and Coen will need to wash the wound and help bandage her up. Instruct her to take off her shirt and tend to the wounds on her back. When this is done, you'll have the option to tell her that you enjoyed her company more than the books. At that point, she'll send you on your way with the medicine, concluding this first encounter. Echoes Of Silenced Bells The next major moment for Coen and Anca will be during the Echoes of Silenced Bells quest. Shortly after everything in Laslea goes to hell and Coen becomes a Dawnwalker, Anca will find Coen in the village and introduce him to Witchcraft, which will become a major skill tree for Coen throughout the game. During this encounter, Anca will share that there are some books in St. Tyna's library, the convent of nuns she was previously part of, that may be helpful. Anca tells Coen to meet her at the inn just outside St. Tyna's when he's ready to go there together. While you are free to go there as soon as you'd like, it's somewhat deep into Vale Sangora and suggests that it would be difficult for you to complete without leveling up some. So, spend some time exploring the northern part of the region, then head there when you think you're ready. Once you finally meet Anca at the inn, head to St. Tyna's, and you'll quickly learn the unfortunate fate of the nuns who remain there. The whole place is under a curse that's caused the nuns who remained inside to turn into violent zombified versions of themselves. Unfortunately, you still need to reach the library, so you'll be tasked with finding a safe route for Anca, which involves ringing a bell in the church that will lead the nuns away from the library and the clinic, and making a deal with some of Brencis' men. Once you've both reached the library, you'll begin your descent into a secret passage where you'll find what you came for. At the end of this underground path, you'll find Leonica, the girl who outed and shamed Anca for using magic. You'll catch her right in the middle of a ritual and learn that she finally embraced magic herself in an attempt to save the nuns from the plague. As most things like this often do, it backfired, and they turned into zombies instead. You'll fight Leonica here, and only then will you learn that Leonica was actually attempting to undo the curse she cast on the nuns. Anca will become distraught by this news and insist she finish the ritual as penance for introducing Leonica to magic in the first place. At this point, you'll have the option to let Anca go through with it, or toss the notes in the fire and tell her it's for her own good. Despite how it might seem, neither of these options will have a long-term impact on your relationship. Anca Completes the Ritual: Anca will finish the ritual alone while you wait. The nuns will be freed, and Anca will be content with this decision. This will also clear St. Tyna's so you can explore it safely, but watch out for the nuns in the woods now. Coen Burns The Notes: Anca will tell Coen he had no right to do that and be short with him before telling him to gather the books and head back to the inn. The nuns will remain at St. Tyna's anytime you return here. That said, if you want to choose the most romance-aligned option, you should allow her to complete the ritual. Though it's not ideal, it clearly brings her a sense of peace within herself to finish it and gives you an extra scene with her. Between The Words After you return from St. Tyna's, you'll have the option to go over the books you found with Anca. She'll ask if you mind making her an optional drink, but know that if you do it, it will cost you one time segment. Here, you'll also have the option to flirt with Anca a bit by suggesting there are better sources of joy than a beverage. As the two of you continue talking, choose the options: Always? What do you mean? Your feelings towards me. It's more than just faith. These will allude to the fact that it's clear Anca has feelings for Coen, but she won't be willing to entertain the conversation beyond that. Finish up the quest by looking over the seemingly blank book, and this is where you'll end for now. Where Old Devils Lie After a few days, a new quest related to Anca will appear. This time, she'll tell you about the Font of Life and insist that the two of you go there together. You'll only be able to go early in the morning, so to start this quest, you'll need to visit Anca shortly after sunrise. This is where things finally start moving along in the romance department. Once you reach the entrance to the old building, you'll have a brief moment with Anca as you sit and take in the view. During this interaction, you'll have the option to tell Anca you care about her and continue choosing dialogue options that reinforce that statement. As the two of you continue through the area, take opportunities to tell Anca that you enjoy seeing her happy and that she's smiling. Though you won't be able to do much during the scene, you'll also briefly watch a cutscene in which Anca paints runes onto Coen as he flirts with her and tension builds. Stronger Than Achilles As you continue deeper into the temple, Coen will face several challenges. After inserting his arm in the blood sacrifice pillar, Anca will rush to his aid to bandage his wounds, at which point you can tell her that you'd rather it be you than her. During this section, you'll also reach a point where Anca will panic because the path is destroyed. There, she will confess that she actually intended to seek out the Font of Life to use it on herself as well. She wishes to remove her markings and the history of witchcraft from her life and start fresh. During this interaction, you'll want to select: You were hoping to use the Font yourself. I would, too, in your place. I'd do anything for you. I love you. The major part here is the last line. If you tell Anca she's just a friend or that she cared for your mother, it somewhat kills the romantic intention. She won't say it back and will suggest the two of you discuss this somewhere more appropriate later. The next major interaction will come at the very end of the temple, when you find the Font. Unfortunately, there's only enough for one person, and so you'll have to choose who will use it. To be clear, this decision does not impact whether you get the romance scene after this. However, if you let Anca use the Font, she will be immensely grateful and, depending on your ending, the people of Laslea will accept her. If you use it on yourself, Coen will gain the perk that allows him to regenerate human health during the day. So the decision is up to you, but for the sake of the romance, it's recommended you let Anca do it. Anca's Romance Scene When you finish up with the Font and head back to the inn, Coen and Anca will sit down at the table, and Coen will remind Anca they still have a conversation to finish. Tell Anca you meant what you said at the temple, followed up by telling her to screw decency and that you want her, too. At this point, Anca will go in for a kiss before backing off again. From here, you can choose any dialogue option, as long as you do not, at any point during this interaction, say that the two of you are just friends. Once you've responded to her, she will kiss Coen again, and the scene will shift into an intimate sex scene between the couple. After it's over, Anca will tell Coen how wonderful it was to feel lost in something other than her own mind. Coen will have the chance to mention that Anca never told him she loved him back, which unfortunately doesn't get a great response. Anca will make it clear to Coen here that they have no long-term future, despite her feelings, because he's a Dawnwalker. This is the only romance scene that can be triggered with Anca, and this will also end her personal quests. However, you will see her again in the epilogue depending on your ending, and she's always there at the inn if you decide to pay a visit.
