(HWC) has committed P500 million to modernize and strengthen the water distribution system in Lucena City in Quezon province through a series of infrastructure projects aimed at improving water service. Lucena Mayor Mark Alcala and businessman Lucio Co, owner of HWC, led the groundbreaking ceremony for the 14 waterworks infrastructure projects at the Lucena City Government Complex in Barangay Mayao Kanluran on Sunday. HWC is the former PrimeWater Infrastructure Corp., which was acquired by Lucio Co-led Crystal Bridges Holding Corp. in a 100-percent buyout late last year. PrimeWater’s initial operations in Lucena had drawn persistent complaints from consumers over recurring water shortages and unreliable service. Article continues after this advertisement READ: Lucio Co Group allots P6.7B for Primewater rehabilitation Alcala said the Hiraya projects mark a major step towards building a more efficient, reliable, and resilient water distribution system in the city. “Through pipe replacement, reservoir retrofitting, bypass line construction, and source development, these projects aim to improve water pressure, expand water availability, reduce service interruptions, and ensure a more reliable water supply for the entire City of Lucena,” Alcala said in a statement.The rehabilitation program covers 14 waterworks projects designed to extend water availability from the current 12 hours to 18 hours, with the long-term goal of providing a continuous 24-hour water supply. Alcala said the city government expects the rehabilitation projects to deliver lasting improvements, resulting in a stronger, more efficient, and more dependable water system for Lucena residents. He added that the initiative responds to the long-standing call of Lucena residents for efficient, uninterrupted, and high-quality water service. “It is a significant step toward building a more progressive community and providing a more comfortable quality of life for every family in Lucena,” the mayor said./coa Your subscription could not be saved.
