Heavy rains expected in parts of Luzon on Sept. 9

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Daniel Villamil said in its 5 p.m. weather advisory that the trough, or extension, of Tropical Cyclone Krovanh will affect eastern Luzon within the next few hours. The first is located east of the Philippines; the cloud formations we see are associated with the trough, or extension, of Tropical Cyclone Krovanh, formerly known as Typhoon Pilandok,” Villamil said. According to Pagasa, the rains brought by Krovanh may bring gloomy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Aurora until Wednesday afternoon. “Typhoon Pilandok is already far from our country and has moved out of our monitoring domain; however, cloud clusters associated with the trough, or tail, of the said typhoon remain, affecting the eastern part of Luzon,” he explained. Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon will persist and bring cloudy skies with scattered rains over Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, Aklan and Antique on Wednesday, according to Pagasa. Occasional rains may also prevail over Zambales, Bataan, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Cavite, Batangas and Occidental Mindoro, also due to the habagat. Likewise, the rest of Visayas may also experience isolated rain showers.
