Midway through a speech about AI and its impact on children, the Duke of Sussex was left staring at a malfunctioning teleprompter and eventually walked off stage.Harry, 42, had taken the stage at Bill and Hillary Clinton’s Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting in New York City on Wednesday, September 23. His speech focused on the risks posed by AI and the adverse effects of social media and technology on children.More than halfway through his remarks, however, the technology he was relying on stopped cooperating.“We do not have years for what comes next,” Harry said before the teleprompter glitched and left him momentarily at a loss for words, as reported by The People Magazine. Rather than pretend the awkward interruption had never happened, Harry decided to make the glitch part of the speech itself.“AI got into my speech, so I was asked to come out and finish it,” he joked, reported CNN.The moment soon made its way online, where a video of the incident went viral on X. Some viewers admitted to experiencing second-hand embarrassment as Harry appeared to lose his place on stage, while others felt the scrutiny surrounding the mishap had been unnecessarily intense.There was, however, an undeniable irony to the interruption. Harry had been speaking about the risks and consequences of rapidly advancing technology when a fairly ordinary piece of technology had managed to derail his speech in real time.The Duke of Sussex has continued to make public appearances and charity-focused engagements since returning to the UK with Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The family recently relocated to Britain, with the children beginning school there.
