Sign in to your ScreenRant account It was back in September that Microsoft and Xbox shared the heartbreaking news that Halo Studios' next entry in the sci-fi franchise, known as Halo 7, would be scrapped due to major studio restructuring and an "Xbox reset". Reportedly still years away from launch, Xbox's reset saw Halo Studios gutted, and we now know that the next mainline Halo game will now be headed by a new team created by Activision itself. With the most recent mainline Halo entry, Halo Infinite, launching back in December 2021, it was no surprise that fans were eagerly anticipating the title which would have been known as Halo 7. However, with the game being years away from launch, Microsoft decided to "pull the plug", according to a report by The Verge, leaving fans and former employees devastated. Now, a few months on from the news of its cancellation, Halo 7 is back in the spotlight after an official teaser was shared online. Courtesy of Halo Waypoint, brand-new concept art has been shared which was taken from Zeta Halo, a title that many believe was once Halo 7. As such, these new pieces of art showcase the Infinity crash site ("Helms Deep"), The Endless, a Forerunner stone city, Ancient Ruins and more, and the images were shared to Twitter/X by user HiddenXperia. "As a final farewell, Halo Studios just dropped a load of concept art on Zeta Halo that's seemingly from their now scrapped Halo 7, the post reads. "Infinity crash site ("Helms Deep"), The Endless, a Forerunner stone city, Ancient Ruins and more. They should've done Campaign DLC man, we were robbed." The link included takes us over to Halo Waypoint, and it is here that we discover more about these now-scrapped locations. "The battle for Zeta Halo encompasses much of the ring's surface, taking place in vast fields of snow and ice, deep jungles with Banished steel embedded into mighty trees looming over the wetlands, sand-blasted ruins that were once home to the Tudejsa." It continues, "After crashing on the ring's surface, the UNSC Infinity was shrouded by advanced Forerunner baffler systems. Over the course of six months, it appears to be becoming part of the ring itself. Whether she will rise again remains unknown, but her scorched and broken hull serves as a haven for surviving human personnel... and a deterrent as the threat of overloading its engines would destroy all the Banished seek to claim." It is clear that a lot of thought and lore had already been packed into the creation of Halo 7, which makes it all the more heartbreaking that it is unlikely to see the light of day. Of course, the Halo franchise will continue, albeit under the guidance of a brand-new team, but will the next installment manage to capture the promised magic of Halo 7? Over on Twitter/X, fans shared their thoughts on the newly discovered concept art, with one user writing, "Only thing we were robbed of was a good franchise once Bungie left. I don’t ever want to see anything from Halo Studios ever again. Halo 7/Infinite DLC not happening is a blessing." Another said, "That waterfall setting would easily have been one of the most memorable locations in all of Halo. Such a cool execution of a megastructure’s sublime scale."
