Google says it fixed the Pixel battery drain bug, but some users disagree

Some users still report battery drain after the update, indicating the update doesn't fix the problem for everyone. Deep Doze keeps the CPU awake and drains idle battery; airplane mode often restores battery life. Following March's big 2026 Pixel Drop, some Pixel users reported experiencing an issue where the smartphone's battery drains rapidly while the phone sits idle and is basically doing nothing. Now, Google says a new update (July update — build CP2A.260705.006) solves the problem for affected Pixel 10 and Pixel 9 devices, with the tech giant marking the bug as "Fixed" in its public issue tracker. An update is also coming for the Pixel 8a and Pixel 9a users, but it won't arrive until Google's September Quarterly Platform Release). It's unclear if Google also plans to also release an update for older devices that are also affected by the issue, including Pixel 7 and Pixel 8 devices. However, even with this latest fix, some users are still reporting experiencing battery drain problems. A quick glance at an official Google support thread reveals several posts where users state that the update hasn't solved the battery issue with their device. It's unclear why only some Pixel devices are affected by the battery drain issue Deep Doze mode seems to be the culprit The issue seems to be tied to the Pixel's CPU running continuously in the background, even when the device isn't being used and the phone is in what's called Deep Doze mode. In some cases, users are reporting that their phone's battery only lasts a few hours, and that when they switch it to airplane mode, their Pixel's battery life improves drastically. To be clear, not all users seem to be encountering the issue with their Pixel devices, so while those affected are very vocal about the problem online, it's unclear how widespread it actually is.
