Girl, 17, critical after e-scooter carrying two teens crashes with car in city centre ‘hit-and-run’

A TEENAGER is fighting for her life following a crash involving a van and an e-scooter. The other girl has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, drug driving and driving without insurance. The van driver did not stay at the scene, and instead drove away after the crash occurred. But following enquiries, cops tracked down a 57-year-old man from Liverpool. He has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and failing to stop. Police are now appealing for any information relating to the incident. Detective Sergeant Simon Duffy from the Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “This was a very serious collision that has resulted in a teenage girl in hospital where she is currently in a critical condition. Most read in The Sun “As part of our initial inquiries, we have arrested two people and they both remain in custody where they will be questioned about their possible involvement. “In the meantime, I’d like to take this opportunity to appeal to any possible witnesses. “We know this happened very early this morning, but if anyone saw what occurred or were driving through the area just before the incident, then please get in touch. “I would also ask anyone who travelled through other parts of the city and saw two girls on an e-scooter to let us know. “Similarly, if you live or work in the area and have CCTV or smart doorbell footage, please take a moment to review to see if you captured anything that could assist our investigation. “Even the smallest of details could be vital, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch and let our team review your footage.” Anyone who witnessed the collision or captured the incident on CCTV or dashcam is being urged by police to contact the SCIU on (0151) 777 5747.
