Gary’s Coronation Street exit ‘confirmed’ after 18 years as Sarah has huge decision to make

| Soaps Reporter Published July 23, 2026 8:47am Updated July 23, 2026 8:47am Gary Windass is linked to Theo Silverton’s murder (Picture: ITV) Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) has been arrested in Coronation Street, which means time is running out for Gary Windass (Mikey North). The character was arrested earlier this week for murdering Theo Silverton (James Cartwright). A few months ago, Sarah endured a showdown with the vile man, which eventually resulted in her hitting Theo with a metal pole. He then fell over some scaffolding and onto the floor. In the immediate aftermath, Sarah called ex-partner Gary for help. This is a man who’s got form when it comes to covering up murders, so doing the same thing again really wasn’t an issue. Gary was confident that if they stayed quiet for long enough, someone else would go to prison for Theo’s murder. He felt relatively in control of the matter but unfortunately, Sarah didn’t. Sarah’s guilt eventually saw her crumble and reveal her secret to boyfriend and copper Kit Green (Jacob Roberts). Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers) previously made it clear to Kit that Sarah is their prime suspect, but she was suspicious that he helped his partner cover up the murder, due to the fact he attempted to retrieve Sarah’s clothes from the evidence store. It was clear Kit was no longer able to do anything to try and save Sarah from life behind bars. In her cell, Kit explained the situation to his girlfriend, and she was absolutely terrified. Kit then advised Sarah to plead self defence, and tell everyone that Gary forced her to cover up Theo’s death. Doing this will increase the chances of Sarah freeing herself or securing a smaller sentence, but the possibility of Gary going to prison will also grow. But if Sarah doesn’t do anything, she will say goodbye to her life in Weatherfield for good, and go to prison for murder. Has Gary’s luck ran out? (Picture: ITV) As this week draws to a close, Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) visits Sarah and rails at her for involving Gary in Theo’s death. With no other option, Sarah decides to come clean to Lisa about killing Theo. But the big question – will she drag Gary under the bus with her? Gary’s managed to get away with a lot in his life, but has his luck finally ran out?
