Frankie Dettori responds to rumours he could ride for Amo as jockey David Egan breaks silence over ‘split’

FRANKIE DETTORI has responded to rumours he could ride for Amo Racing before the end of the season – marking another sensational U-turn. Dubbed the ‘comeback king’, Dettori, 55, has been quoted at 4-1 with Betway to ride for Kia Joorabchian’s outfit in the UK this term. Dettori broke several ribs when he flipped his borrowed two-seater Smart car in a road smash earlier this month. But he is hoping to be fit and well enough to ride in the Leger Legends race at Doncaster’s St Leger meeting in August. Betway made Dettori pretty short odds to race in an official capacity for Amo before the season is out. The firm’s Lewis Knowles said: “Frankie has certainly been the comeback king over the years, with more than one retirement U-turn, so you could never truly rule out a return to the saddle at some stage. “His relationship with Kia Joorabchian and the Amo Racing operation as Racing Manager is seemingly going from strength to strength, and with a retained rider vacancy very much open, it’s certainly not beyond the realms of possibility that we could see the great man in those famous purple silks once again.” Dettori responded to these rumours with a laughing face emoji on X. So while it appears fanciful, it hasn’t entirely been ruled out. Amo will use a ‘best available’ policy for jockeys going forward. Speaking on Racing TV, Egan, who will continue to ride in the purple Amo silks, said: “There’s been no quotes from anyone – it’s no comment from me.” Asked how it felt to see Amo’s former No1 Rossa Ryan ride a 106-1 double at the Curragh on Sunday for the outfit, Egan replied: “I’ve got no comment on the situation. “I’m declared to ride a horse on Friday for Amo, plan to ride for him (Kia) on Saturday and even into next week. “So no comment from me.
