Over the past year or so, Fortnite has changed in a number of big ways. The AI-generated elephant in the room is one example, but perhaps the most obvious is the introduction and emphasis placed on Sprites. The cute companions were introduced at the start of Chapter 6, and have quickly become a key part of the game. We’ve come a long way from the simple elemental Sprites of the first season, with tons being added, including some that are themed around collaborations. The recent Sprite Garden made it seem as if they were a permanent fixture of Fortnite, but that might not be the case in the next Chapter. Fortnite Chapter 8 Might Be Leaving Sprites Behind Just When I Started Bothering With Them As reported by Insider Gaming, reliable Fortnite dataminer Blortzen shared a post detailing what they’ve discovered about Sprites from the game’s files. According to them, the files related to extracting Sprites, including the “core one”, are set to leave for the release of Chapter 8, although they will stick around for the game’s next mini-season. While it’s tough to know what this means just from the code alone, it suggests that Sprites aren’t going to be a game mechanic for the start of Chapter 8. That’s quite a surprise considering how important they’ve become to Fortnite, not only taking on a mascot role, but having lots of abilities and perks tied to them. The fact that they’ve even been mixed in with collabs made it seem as if Epic planned on keeping them around for a long time. While I’m sure that some Fortnite players will be sad that their massive collection of Sprites might not be added to in Chapter 8, it’s fair to say that just as many will be very happy. Sprites change up Fortnite’s core focus so much, putting a lot of stock in making you find and collect them, that they’ve been incredibly divisive since they were added. Of course, that’s not to say that Sprites won’t ever make a return, if they’re actually even being cut. As Tilted Towers has proven many times before, nothing ever really stays dead in Fortnite for long, and I imagine Epic just wants to spotlight the chapter’s new mechanic before bringing the Sprites back in a big way after a few seasons.
