Former Florida State QB Thomas Castellanos open to return to college football

Former Florida State quarterback Thomas Castellanos is open to a return to college football after gaining a fifth year of eligibility with Friday night’s class-wide ruling in Colorado, his agent Joe Hernandez of Just Win Management tells On3. The former Boston College and UCF transfer was a class of 2022 recruit who finished his fourth season of eligibility this fall. With Friday night’s ruling in the U.S. District Court of Colorado, Castellanos is granted a fifth year as part of the class-wide preliminary injunction against the NCAA. Plaintiffs in the suit requested that transfer rules, the NCAA’s rule of restitution and roster limits be suspended. It is currently unclear what Sweeney specifically granted or did not. Hernandez said Castellanos, who went undrafted in April’s NFL draft, is open to a return to college football as a quarterback or athlete. He’s started to receive preliminary interest from a range of schools. Friday night’s ruling brings a load of questions on which athletes will now seek a fifth year and return to college athletics. College football front offices across the country are now left trying to figure out if they can add players to their roster ahead of fall camp opening next week. Castellanos threw for 2,760 yards and 15 touchdowns while rushing for 557 yards and nine scores in his sole season with the Seminoles in 2025. He memorably led Florida State to a Week 1 upset of Alabama in Tallahassee.
