Former Child Star Raquel Lee Sues Disney Over Alleged Rape at 14 by Ex-Employee

Raquel Lee, who appeared on “The Amanda Show” and “The Proud Family” as a child star, has sued Disney, alleging that an ex-employee raped her when she was 14 while working on the 2001 movie “The Poof Point.” In a lawsuit filed Friday, Lee accused Disney of negligence and claimed that a “middle-aged, male employee who was involved in the filming of the movie” groomed her, sexually harassed and assaulted her while filming “The Poof Point.” He allegedly gave Lee alcohol and assaulted her while the film’s cast was staying in Salt Lake City and on a flight back to California. The lawsuit claimed that Disney and the director of the film, Neal Israel, told Lee to “bond with, get close to, and trust” the employee. “Disney authorized sexual harassment on set, permitting sexualized jokes, commentary, fondling, and excessive touching,” it stated. “[The employee] regularly made sexually explicit jokes and commentary on the set of a children’s movie and around children. No one from Disney even attempted to curb Mr. Doe’s inappropriate and sexualized commentary.” Disney declined to comment. Popular on Variety The lawsuit claimed that Lee was “exhausted, often intoxicated, hungover, or vomiting on set” due to the alleged abuse and alcohol consumption and that Disney did not provide medical care. It alleged that “multiple Disney executives” accused Lee of “being ‘out of control,'” “causing the movie to go ‘haywire,'” “‘need[ing] Jesus'” and “having ‘a demon inside her.'” Disney also allegedly canceled Lee’s role in a production after “The Poof Point.” Lee reprised her “Proud Family” role on the Disney Channel revival “Proud Family: Louder and Prouder” from 2022-2026. She also participated in the bombshell documentary, “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV,” where discussed her experience as a Black actor on “The Amanda Show.”
