Sign in to your TheGamer account It’s no secret that the Final Fantasy 7 remake series has struggled to sell well in the past, routinely failing to meet the sales expectations that Square Enix places upon them. While it hasn’t been said, you have to imagine that this is probably why Square Enix has begun breaking free from PlayStation exclusivity, with Final Fantasy 7 Revelation launching on all systems. However, as we get further from the launch of both Remake and Rebirth, and the games get added to more and more systems, those sales have started picking up, and according to series director Naoki Hamaguchi, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation has helped a bunch too. Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Has Everyone Running Back To Rebirth In a recent interview with Automaton, Hamaguchi was asked how the FF7 games are performing, considering they’ve been regularly popping up in sales charts. To our surprise, they’re apparently performing “extremely well.” “They are doing extremely well,” says Hamaguchi. “Even before Summer Game Fest 2026, both FFVII Remake and Rebirth had been selling steadily. Back when Rebirth was announced, every time it became a hot topic, sales of Remake would rise. Similarly, I’m sure every time Revelation attracts attention, more people will become interested in Rebirth.” Hamaguchi also mentions that the big boost of players that the previous games got when Revelation was first revealed at Summer Game Fest was “several times better than we had expected”, so it seems like all the games are helping each other out when it comes to sales. Unfortunately, he later mentions that he can’t go into specific numbers, so we’ll just have to use our imaginations on the front, but he does state that the sales are “better than most people probably imagine.” That’s definitely good to hear, especially as we have Final Fantasy 7 Revelation on the horizon. Hopefully, what with this being the end of the saga — and the fact that it will have a simultaneous release on all platforms — Square Enix will actually be happy with the sales of Revelation, and we’re not looking at yet another underperformer that will take a while to get going.
