Fake PMO official, 'bodyguard' with gun detained ahead of PM Modi's Mumbai event

Hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the Global Fintech Fest 2026 at Mumbai’s Jio World Centre, police detained two men in Bandra Kurla Complex after one of them allegedly posed as a Prime Minister’s Office official.The suspect, identified as Rohan Parekh, was allegedly carrying a forged PMO identity card. A gun was also reportedly recovered from the bodyguard accompanying him.Mumbai Police detained the two men after security personnel examined the identity card and found it to be fake.The Mumbai Crime Branch is investigating how the suspects reached the high-security area and whether their alleged attempt to enter the venue using a forged identity card and carrying a weapon was linked to the Prime Minister’s visit. PM Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the latest edition of the Global Fintech Fest and address a gathering at the Jio World Centre in BKC.The annual conference will bring together policymakers, regulators, financial institutions, technology firms and investors to discuss the future of finance.
