While there are plenty of options when it comes to co-op horror games to play online, either by yourself or with a friend, No More Room In Hell 2's latest 1.2 update is offering some seriously exciting additions to incentivize both new and returning players to visit its infected wonderland. Having been teased earlier in the month, the full update detailed on NMRIH2's Steam page is now fully available for all players, offering a new map, post-game progression options, and several quality of life features to make surviving against waves of infected all the more satisfying. While it might now be as massive as the 1.0 release that turned around players' perception of NMRIH2, its still well worth checking out. A New Map Just In Time For Halloween The first major addition arriving with NMRIH2's 1.2 update comes in the form of the Ruby Lake Survival map, which is heavily inspired from 80s slasher franchises like Friday The 13th and Evil Dead. While not directly from any one particular film, NRMIH2's new map still has plenty of nods an Easter eggs to classic horror media, including a few posters for Night of the Living Dead. While you can't select Ruby Map specifically when playing, the map will have a higher chance of being selected for a limited time. The only downside to the new map set on the outskirts of Warren County New Jeresy, is that it is exclusive to the new survival game mode introduced in the 1.0 update, which involves defending a set area against increasing waves of zombies while making the most of your resources and available defenses in the process. Despite only being available in the somewhat less popular survival mode, the map itself is still a blast to play, with numerous opportunities to defend specific areas while nailing the spooky atmosphere with its dark forests, empty cabins, and eery sound design. Responder Retirement Adds New Post-Game Replayability Image from Torn Banner Studios Aside from the new halloween-themed map, the biggest change introduced in NMRIH2's new update is the Responder Retirement system, which offers some incredibly worthwhile rewards fro anyone that is able to keep their responder alive until level 100. After reaching the level requirement, you'll be able to permanently retire your characters in exchange for Distinguished Service progression points, which scale depending on how many levels and upgraded skills they have equipped. In addition to bragging rights, each Distinguish Rank also offers permanent rewards in the form of powerful new skills, items, and even extra starting inventory slots. Distinguish Ranks also offer exclusive cosmetics and other goodies, with more levels being added in futuer updates. As if these weren't enough, each level up until rank 30 will offer a permanent starting level increase, meaning that every Responder you recruit afterwards will have a significant advantage, and let you get even closer to the retirement requirement. While these upgrades offer some excellent incentives for anyone able to survive long enough, several of the rewards will make a huge difference when it comes to surviving the upcoming Hell mode difficulty modifier. NMRIH2 Is Getting Some Spicy DLC Packs In addition to the free skins you can unlock through the Responder Retirement system, NRMIH2 is also getting 3 cosmetic DLC packs in the form of the Killer Cat, Enforcer, and Scarecrow bundles, which incorporate new styles like hoods we haven't seen before yet. While the two skins are creatively themed after the season and the are Ruby Lake map respectively, the Killer Cat bundle actually comes from the community itself, with the two cats included as Compasses and the icon being the winners of the Cat Contest shared in the official NMRIH2 Discord server. Plenty Of Quality Of Life Features To Enjoy On top of the content additions, NMRIH2 is also experimenting with some new accessibility features like subtitles for all the relevant in-game dialogue, making it easier to keep track of the storyline of each map or key objectives, with more refinements to come in the future. Of course, as with most major updates, MRIH2 players can also expect dozens of bugfixes and other complaints, alongside better in-game communication and range for voice chat, and some improvements to the Power Plant map. While some of these changes won't be too noticeable for new players, MRIH2's 1.2 update also coincides with a 25 percent off sale until November 2dn,. perfect to take advantage of the spooky season before its too late.
