People are finally playing the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 campaign and absolutely loving it Image: Infinity Ward/Activision Sign in to your Polygon.com account The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 campaign released on Oct. 16 for those who pre-ordered the game digitally, so first reactions to it are finally rolling in. So far, sentiment around this part of the new Call of Duty is positive, with many fans praising the campaign. What is the reaction to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's campaign? Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's campaign takes the action to South Korea, as Price fights against Makarov and a new threat called The Archer reaches new heights just as a war between North and South Korea breaks out. It's a high-stakes political and military thriller, and has some open-ended levels that tease out the impending DMZ mode. While Black Ops 7's campaign was one of the most derided aspects of last year's Call of Duty, the opposite is the case for Modern Warfare 4. A quick look at the top posts on the Modern Warfare 4 subreddit shows how much players are loving the campaign. User Havkas called it the "best campaign since original trilogy," elaborating that it "plays like a perfect blend of the modern entries and the original trilogy." This sentiment is felt across the subreddit, as fans see the campaign as a return to form for the Modern Warfare franchise after some relatively weaker recent campaigns. In one comment, user Resting-Tiger goes as far as to say the game has "MW2 OG levels of storytelling," favorably comparing it to one of the best Call of Duty campaigns ever. The critical consensus around Modern Warfare 4's campaign is also positive. While Polygon has not reviewed it yet, IGN's review complimented the campaign. They wrote that a "consistently strong set of missions manages to juggle a bloated cast successfully," echoing what players who've gone hands-on with the game are feeling. While there's obviously always going to be excitement surrounding the release of a new Call of Duty, it's already clear that Modern Warfare 4 is winning people over during a relative low point for the franchise. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's publicized release date is technically Oct. 23, but that's for its physical release and traditional multiplayer modes. Those who pre-order the game digitally can play through the campaign now and will gain access to the DMZ extraction shooter mode on Oct. 20.
