Harry Styles Pays Tribute To Liam Payne With New Song At Madison Square Garden Concert

Harry Styles paid tribute last night to his late One Direction bandmate Liam Payne by performing an unreleased acoustic song titled “What Is Enough” from the stage of Madison Square Garden. The sold-out performance came on the two-year anniversary of Payne’s death at 31 from a fall from a balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Styles is currently performing a residency (through October 31) at MSG as part of his Together, Together tour. On Friday night, according to various reports, he told the packed house, “I feel incredibly lucky to get to play these shows here in New York, and this building means a lot to me…And two years ago today, I lost one of those friends…I’m sure a lot of you have been through similar things. I hope you haven’t. But really, it’s just about looking after each other.” The singer continued, “There are so many people who have touched my life in such special ways that I wouldn’t be here without. I’m gonna play you a song I wrote for my friend about two years ago, if that’s all right.” After identifying the song as “What Is Enough,” Styles, accompanying himself with a guitar, launched into the gently melodic tune with lyrics that included, “I’m not wise enough/But I wrote you a letter just to burn it up/And watch it rise like you’re in the sky.” Watch on Deadline Rolling Stone posted a clip of the performance, watch it below. Styles and Payne were original members of One Direction from the group’s beginning in 2010 through its end in 2015.
