Dungeons & Dragons Is Getting Its Biggest Crossover Ever

Dungeons & Dragons is certainly no stranger to crossovers and collaborations, as Wizards of the Coast have worked with numerous other IP and studios to craft tailor-made books for other iconic worlds. It makes sense considering D&D's robust ruleset translates rather well to similarly themed settings and can be adjusted accordingly for when it doesn't quite fit. Naturally, fans are constantly curious about what the next crossover event may be for D&D, a question that has become ever prevalent in recent years. The sheer number of crossover events over the past few years has truly transformed the TTRPG and seen D&D enter a bold new era, one that absolutely mirrors Wizards of the Coast's other suddenly crossover-heavy tabletop experience, Magic: The Gathering. However, unlike Universes Beyond, Dungeons & Dragon's series of crossover events are standalone and largely don't interact with the wider gaming experience. Fortunately, this bodes well for fans of D&D's biggest crossover event yet, as they'll be getting an entire Dungeons and Dragons experience devoted to their favorite IP. It would appear that World of Warcraft is finally getting its very own setting book for D&D 5e. This is based on a leak from a post on the Roll20 website ahead of an upcoming panel at 2026 Gen Con. The since-removed post stated that pre-orders were now live for the crossover event, and came with an accompanying image that looks incredibly official. Of course, all leaks should be taken with a grain of salt, but it seems extremely likely that this one is true, not least because of D&D's past with previous crossovers. Of course, this wouldn't be the first time that Wizards of the Coast teamed up with Blizzard for a Dungeons & Dragons crossover. Back in 2000, alongside the release of Diablo 2, Wizards of the Coast released Dungeons & Dragons: Diablo II Edition alongside three expansions which arrived later in the year. It also isn't the first time WoW has been adapted to a TTRPG formula, as under the imprint Swords & Sorcery Studios, White Wolf Inc. (the creators of the World of Darkness RPG series which includes Vampire: The Masquerade) released Warcraft: The Roleplaying Game, which utilized D&D's 3e ruleset. It won't take long to confirm whether this leak is real, but should it turn out to be true, it will be D&D's biggest crossover ever. Despite the MMO having been around for well over two decades, the player base for WoW is still astronomically high. So, one can absolutely expect demand for this crossover to be rather substantial, much like it is for the majority of MTG's controversial UB events. It remains to be seen what IPs, if any, Dungeons & Dragons opts to collaborate with next, and if this is its business model going forward. It has clearly worked extraordinarily well for Magic: The Gathering, with its Final Fantasy set proving to be its most successful when it launched. So, it wouldn't be particularly surprising to see Wizards of the Coast make that same pivot away from in-game universes towards external ones. Nevertheless, this WoW Dungeons & Dragons crossover will surely delight fans, and potentially even onboard newcomers to the TTRPG experience.
