Diljit Dosanjh Indore concert: Four songs barred over alcohol, gun culture

Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh has been barred from performing four of his hit tracks during his upcoming live concert in Indore, scheduled for November 15. The restriction applies to the songs Patiala Peg, 5 Tara Theke, Jeb Vicho Feem, and Jatt Fire Karda. The directive was issued by the District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) of Indore to the manager of the concert venue, located at C21 Mall in the city. The action follows a formal complaint lodged by Chandigarh-based activist Dr Panditrao Dharenavar, who raised objections against songs glorifying alcohol consumption, drug usage, and gun culture.Speaking exclusively to India Today, Professor Panditrao said that he had mailed the letter on November 1 and got a response from them yesterday. He highlighted that he has been passionately working towards helping eradicate drug menace.“In a time when the authorities are working so hard towards eradicating drug issue, it is so important for our artists to show support. They cannot be singing tracks that talk about it. The High Court has directed to ensure that no songsare played glorifying the liquor, wine, drugs and violence in any song even in live shows. So they better oblige. I am thankful the authorities took swift action,” he added. The Professor’s complaint also raises concerns about children attending the concert, citing the potential exposure to loud music exceeding 120 decibels and flashing stage lights that could trigger seizures. It argues that children should not be invited on stage during live performances, given these potential health risks. In the official notice, the administration explicitly instructed the management to ensure that track numbers highlighting themes such as alcohol, opium, or firearms — specifically referencing lyrics from Patiala Peg, 5 Taara Theeke, Jeeb Vicho Feem Labbiya, and Jatt Uthe Fire Karda Jithe Paabandi Hathiyara Di — are excluded from the performance lineup. To ensure strict compliance during the live event, copies of the directive have been forwarded to the District Magistrate and the Police Commissioner of Indore. The regulatory action comes alongside heightened security measures surrounding the event. Local authorities recently initiated a cyber crime investigation after three schools and the Mayor's Secretariat received bomb threat emails in connection with the November 15 AURA India Tour concert.Addressing the security concerns in an Instagram video message, Diljit confirmed that the performance will proceed as planned. He said, "I will visit Indore on November 15. Anyone can say anything, but I will meet you in Indore on November 15. I have heard on the news that there will be some threat, but we know how to handle this. Do they know who we are?"Previously, on October 30, Diljit performed at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi with nearly 2,000 private security personnel deployment and traffic restrictions around the venue.- EndsInputs by Dharmendra Kumar Sharma and Sana Farzeen.
