Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Brings Back OG Tradition In New Set Photo

He strives to continue being a "perpetual student." Dexter: Resurrection season 2 is sailing towards its release. Dexter: Resurrection season 1 ended in a big way, as Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), formerly accused of being the Bay Harbor Butcher, seemingly transitions into what could now be called the New York Harbor Butcher. Once again, Dexter escaped a close-call situation and killed another bad guy, Leon Prater (Peter Dinklage). Before leaving the crime scene, Dexter grabbed information on active serial killers from Prater's collection, then, in classic fashion, he took Prater's body, sailed out on the open water, and got rid of the evidence. Now, producer and lead writer, Scott Reynolds, posted a picture of a large boat, the "Sound Bound Odyssey," with the caption, "Today’s production adventure. #DexterResurrection." This is a classic reference to Dexter's old pattern of killing someone, then taking their body to the water, where hopefully all that would remain is a blood slide of his victims. Back as far as season 1, episode 1, after Dexter's very first on-screen kill, Mike Donovan, he takes his boat, "Slice of Life" into Miami waters to get rid of the body, and he talks about how he "doesn't know what made [him] the way [he] is, but whatever it was left a hollow place inside." Regarding human interactions, he adds that, "[he] fake[s] them all, and [he] fakes them very well." Right after this, when a boat full of people passes by, he cheerily yells over, "Ahoy! Ahoy there captain! Any big marlin out there today?" Regarding Reynolds's picture of the "Sound Bound Odyssey," the symbolism and return to an iconic part of Dexter's story carries a lot of meaning for season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection. The boat also represents a time when Dexter's adoptive father, Harry Morgan (James Remar), confronted him about killing the neighbor's dog, and possibly more, asking him, "You're different, aren't you Dexter?" In classic Dexter fashion, on the boat, he described his reasoning, his earliest "code," lamenting how the dog was keeping his mom awake, although Harry added, "There were a lot of bones in there Dexter, not just Buddy's," suggesting that young Dexter was already struggling with his "Dark Passenger." ScreenRant's Greg MacArthur in his Dexter: Resurrection review, called the latest season "one of the greatest Dexter seasons of all time." It currently has a 95% critics' score and a 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, and beyond Dinklage, it featured an all-star cast of Uma Thurman (Charley Brown), Krysten Ritter (Mia/"Lady Vengeance"), Kadia Saraf (Det. Claudette Wallace), Guma Mbaho Mwine (Blessing Kamara), Emilia Suárez (Elsa Rivera), Jack Alcott (Harrison Morgan), James Remar (Harry Morgan), among many others, and brought back Angel Batista (David Zayas). Fans of the show are excited about Dexter: Resurrection season 2's new characters, and Reynolds' post suggests that there will be a lot more action to come. Following his tweet highlighting production on the "Sound Bound Odyssey," Reynolds tweeted a picture from the boat at night, looking towards the city saying, "Missing you this time San Diego @Comic_Con - but being out on the water and making season 2 of #DexterResurrection makes it all right." Dexter: Resurrection season 2 is currently filming on location in New York, and it's expected release date is sometime in October 2026. If it were to release on October 1, 2026, it would mark the 20th anniversary of the original series, and when the "Slice of Life" was first seen on the open water. With new characters, manu character arcs to be explored, and references that date all the way back to Dexter's first episode, Dexter: Resurrection season 2 is sailing towards familiar yet exciting waters.
