MUSCAT: Skywatchers in Oman are in for a celestial treat as the annual Delta Aquariid meteor shower reaches its peak on the nights of July 30 and 31, offering the chance to witness up to 15–20 meteors per hour under ideal viewing conditions.According to the Oman Society of Astronomy and Space, the Delta Aquariids are among the most prominent summer meteor showers. The shower remains active from July 12 to August 23 each year and is known for its fast-moving meteors streaking across the night sky. The meteors originate from debris left behind by Comet 96P/Machholz and enter Earth's atmosphere at speeds of around 41 kilometres per second. They appear to radiate from the constellation Aquarius, giving the shower its name.
