Dead sperm whale fished out off Batanes

Villagers who spotted the dead whale were helped by firemen and the Coast Guard, who are based in Ivana town. The whale’s corpse will be examined on Wednesday by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources and will undergo a specialized post-mortem examination. The whale might have been dead for several days before it was discovered, officials noted. Veterinarians are also verifying if the dead whale is related to a similar rare whale species, which was also found dead in Uyugan, Batanes on January 26.
