CUET 2027 may get a one-day format, 40-minute papers and just 4 subjects: Report

NTA and UGC are reportedly considering major CUET 2027 changes, including a one-student-one-day model, shorter papers, fewer questions and a possible four-subject limit. Some low-demand CUET PG programmes may also be considered for removal from the entrance test, but none of these changes has been officially confirmed yet.NTA and UGC are reportedly considering major CUET 2027 changes, including a one-student-one-day model, shorter papers, fewer questions and a possible four-subject limit. New Delhi,Oct 7, 2026 13:08 ISTCUET UG 2027 could look very different for students if a set of proposed changes under consideration by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and University Grants Commission (UGC) is approved. The reported plan, as per sources quoted in a Navbharat Times report, includes a possible "one student, one day" exam model, shorter papers, fewer questions and potentially fewer subjects that a candidate can choose. However, these are proposed changes and have not been officially confirmed by NTA.EACH STUDENT CAN COMPLETE ALL PAPERS ON A SINGLE DAYUnder the reported proposal, students could complete all their selected CUET papers on a single day instead of having to visit an exam centre on multiple dates. The overall examination could still be spread across several days, but an individual student would get one allotted day for all their papers. This could reduce repeated travel and accommodation costs, particularly for students appearing from cities other than their hometowns.60 MINUTES COULD BECOME 40 TO 45 Another reported change is a cut in the duration of each subject paper. The current CUET UG 2026 pattern gives candidates 60 minutes and 50 compulsory questions per paper, with the exam conducted in multiple shifts.Under the reported 2027 proposal, the duration could fall to around 40 to 45 minutes, while the number of questions could come down to approximately 35 to 40.That does not automatically mean an easier examination. Students could have less total time, even if they also have fewer questions.FIVE SUBJECTS COULD BECOME FOURThe maximum number of subjects a candidate can select could also be reviewed.CUET UG 2026 currently permits candidates to choose up to five subjects, including languages and the General Aptitude Test.Reports suggest this could potentially be reduced to four for CUET UG 2027. This could matter for students who currently select an additional subject to keep more university and programme options open.SOME CUET PG COURSES MAY ALSO BE DROPPEDThe reported changes may not be limited to undergraduate admissions. For CUET PG, authorities are reportedly considering whether entrance tests should continue for programmes where applications are very low compared with available seats. One option being discussed is to leave such programmes outside the entrance test and allow universities to use merit-based admissions instead. For now, students should not assume that any particular CUET UG or PG rule has changed.NTA has not released the CUET UG 2027 Information Bulletin yet, and its official CUET portal currently lists 2026 examination notices and results. The reported changes should therefore be treated as proposals until NTA and the Education Ministry issue an official notification.- Ends
