CPA seizes 18,000 expired products, confiscates 54,000 tobacco packs in one week

Muscat: Oman’s Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has intensified its inspection and enforcement efforts across the Sultanate, seizing more than 18,000 expired products and confiscating nearly 54,000 packs of tobacco products and banned cigarettes during the week ending July 25, 2026.The figures were released as part of the authority’s weekly performance report, which also highlighted a series of consumer protection initiatives and enforcement actions carried out across several governorates. The CPA launched its "Your Awareness, Your Safety" campaign to coincide with the Dhofar Khareef Season, aiming to raise public awareness about consumer rights and promote safe purchasing practices during the peak tourist season.In Muscat and Al Dakhiliyah governorates, inspectors seized more than 18,000 expired products found in commercial establishments.Meanwhile, in South Al Sharqiyah and North Al Batinah, authorities confiscated nearly 54,000 packs of tobacco products and banned cigarettes as part of ongoing efforts to curb the sale of prohibited goods.The authority also announced recall campaigns involving 2,266 Lexus vehicles (model years 2019–2023) and 174 BMW vehicles (model years 2022–2025) to address identified manufacturing issues.In North Al Batinah, the CPA recovered more than OMR 4,000 for consumers and secured the replacement of a vehicle worth over OMR 32,000 after resolving consumer complaints.The report further noted that several commercial establishments in Al Dhahirah and Muscat were convicted of violating consumer protection laws. Courts imposed fines on the offenders and ordered compensation for affected consumers.The Consumer Protection Authority reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding consumer rights through regular market inspections, enforcement measures, and awareness campaigns, while urging consumers to report violations through its official communication channels.
