Muscat: A consumer has received a brand-new replacement vehicle worth OMR32,000 after the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) successfully brokered an amicable settlement with a vehicle dealership in North Al Batinah Governorate over a manufacturing defect. The dispute arose just days after the consumer purchased a new vehicle, when a warning light appeared on the dashboard. The owner immediately returned the vehicle to the dealership for inspection. According to the CPA, technical examinations revealed that the engine contained no engine oil, a defect that could have resulted in severe engine damage or complete engine failure due to a lack of lubrication.Further verification confirmed that the vehicle was also subject to a manufacturer's recall because of a manufacturing defect.Following the consumer's complaint, the CPA facilitated discussions between the two parties, leading to an amicable settlement. Under the agreement, the dealership replaced the defective vehicle with a new one valued at OMR32,000, resolving the dispute without the need for litigation. The Consumer Protection Authority reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding consumer rights and ensuring that complaints are resolved fairly and efficiently. It also urged consumers to report any issues involving defective products or services through its official communication channels so that appropriate action can be taken.
