Chinese national arrested at airport after alleged $20,000 bribe

A Chinese national has been arrested after he allegedly attempted to bribe a public official with a bag of tea containing $20,000 in cash.The man was apprehended on July 24 as he attempted to board a flight at Sydney International Airport and was extradited back to Queensland on Saturday.The 39-year-old Chinese national allegedly attempted to bribe a Commonwealth public official during a business meeting in Camp Hill, Brisbane on July 9. Police have alleged that during the meeting the man handed the woman a bag of tea, which was later found to contain $20,000 cash.It is alleged the attempted bribery was for business gain.The woman reported the incident and a joint operation was launched involving Queensland Police, the Australian Federal Police and the National Anti-Corruption Commission.The man has been charged with one count of gift or offer a secret commission to an agent and will appear before the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.
