Brazil and Argentina’s stance on Infantino’s World Cup plan revealed as Conmebol finally releases statement

CONMEBOL announced they held talks with all South American members to decide on Fifa president Gianni Infantino’s shameless plot to flog World Cup stakes to private investors. Brazil, Argentina and the rest of the nations insisted “football always comes first” and any final decision will be based on the sport’s best interest. The football governing body issued the following statement: “Conmebol reaffirms that its priority will always be football: its values, its people and the passion that makes it the most popular sport in the world. Sign up for the Football newsletter Thank you! “We understand that the development of football requires commercial and financial decisions. “However, these decisions must always be at the service of football and never above its essence. Football always comes first. “Since Conmebol became aware of the proposal presented by Fifa in relation to the FFE project, and in compliance with its institutional procedures, it began a process of consultations with its Member Associations and convened a meeting of its Council with the sole purpose of analysing and evaluating said proposal with the responsibility and rigour that the issue requires. “To this end, Conmebol asked Fifa for additional information and clarifications on different aspects related to the scope, structure, governance and possible effects of the FFE project. “Conmebol will continue to act with prudence, responsibility and a spirit of collaboration, contributing to the strengthening of world football exclusively through institutional channels and the principles of good governance. “Conmebol calls for the unity of the entire football family and to always put football before any other interest.” Most read in Football SUN VEGAS WELCOME OFFER: GET UP TO £100 BONUS Infantino’s close aide Carlos Cordeiro has quit in protest at the boss’s plans Credit: AP Infantino, 56, wants to sell off shares related to the organisation’s commercial and event operations, with the estimation being it could raise £7.52billion. The Swiss official’s controversial idea was met with fury by Uefa, who unanimously agreed to boycott all Fifa-related competitions until he rescinds his unpopular plan. Concacaf swiftly followed by rejecting the outlandish World Cup plans before AFC also slammed the initiative and Infantino’s senior advisor Carlos Cordeiro resigned in protest. Comment now
