In Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault, it can be tough to prioritize what to improve first, given that there's so much going on between your shop and each individual run. Understanding how the shop and combat work is valuable, but they don't contribute as heavily to progress as your inventory. While it may seem simple, you have to do more than simply transfer relics from chests to your backpack.Different relics will have unique effects based on where they're located in your backpack, so it's never a good idea to aimlessly move things into the bag without understanding the effect each Curse will inflict on the surrounding relics. Here are some tips to organize your backpack to maximize your profits on each run. What Do Relic Curses Do? It's critical that you know what each relic's curse does, because they may affect the other relics that are in your bag at any given time. For example, if you don't notice that the relic you're putting in your bag will burn all the "pointed relics," you can destroy something that could've been quite valuable. Conversely, some relics have curses that only activate when they have been burned, shocked or petrified. This may destroy the relic with that curse, but might benefit a different relic in your bag. Pay attention to which relics have other status effects, like Armor or Overcharge. Different curses make a big difference in where they should be placed in the backpack. Below, we'll list out the different types and how they affect other relics. Curse In-Game Description Tip Each Time "Triggers every time a specified action is performed." These curses are not removed from the relic after it gets used, so be sure to hold onto these types of relics to maximize the benefits they provide. Next Time "Triggers the following time a specified action is performed." This can be something negative, like burning or shocking, or it could be for using armor on different relics. Keep these if you know you'll perform the specified action multiple times in your run. Pointed "Triggers when at least one indicated slot contains a relic." These curses will only activate when another relic is in one of the highlighted slots in the backpack, relative to the relic. As soon as at least one of those highlighted spots is filled, the curse is activated and removed from the relic. Once Placed "Triggers when the relic is placed in the backpack." These curses work best when you already have other valid relics on you. As soon as they're placed in the backpack, they'll affect either themselves or some other relics, but if you don't have any relics that they'll affect, the curse gets used, and you don't get to reap the benefits. Position "Triggers when the relic is placed in the indicated edges of the backpack." These relics can be either "Left-Right" or "Top-Bottom," so make sure you check where they need to be and what other relics will be affected once they're placed. You can save these by putting them in the middle rows of the backpack so they don't trigger until you want them to. Corner "Triggers when the relic is placed in a corner slot." Relics with these curses will generally affect the relics in the same row as them, so it's important to make sure that the ones you want to be affected are properly lined up with Corner relics. Burned "Triggers when the relic is affected by Burn." Burned relics need another relic to burn them to activate. This destroys the relic unless it's already been armored by a different curse. Save these until you have a way to armor them, so you can bring them back to the shop to sell after using the curse. Shocked "Triggers when the relic is struck by Shock and gets Overcharged." Unlike being burned, a relic that gets shocked doesn't get destroyed. Instead, the relic that did the shocking will self-destruct. Overcharged "State of a relic that causes it to be destroyed if Shocked." Like stated above, shocking a relic doesn't destroy it, but it gives it the Overcharged status. If that relic is shocked again, it will be destroyed, but you can remove the Overcharged status with other cursed relics. Petrify "Transform a relic into a Crystal while preserving its rarity." Petrified relics are interesting because once they're turned into crystals, you can absorb them with other relics. This preserves the quality of the relic in another, but means you don't have the physical thing to bring back with you when you return to Tresna. Back to Tresna "Triggers when returning to Tresna." These relics are ones that only have their curse activated once you leave the dungeon, whether that's by using your pendant or being defeated. This means you have to hold onto them for the whole run to maximize their potential. It can be tough to keep track of every curse on every relic in your backpack, so every couple of rooms it's good to go through and check what you have. You might be able to make some room for better relics, or you can at least swap out lower-valued relics for those that will sell for more. How To Place Relics The physical column or row of any given relic can also massively affect how it impacts your backpack. Some curses like Corner and Position will affect a group of relics at once, so it's important to use these to your advantage. A relic with Position may affect any other relics placed in the same row.You can also use the Pointed relics to your advantage. You can place them so that the arrows point out of the backpack, and the curses won't affect any other relics you have. Then, you can move the cursed relics elsewhere and use the curse to clear up some space in your backpack through burning or overcharging. Indie Games Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault PC
