Bengaluru: 200-acre semiconductor park in KWIN City to become operational in December, says M.B. Patil

Patil on Thursday (July 23) said that a 200-acre semiconductor park in Phase I of Knowledge, Wellbeing and Innovation (KWIN) City is expected to become operational by December this year.Speaking at the inaugural session of the 15th Strategic Electronics Summit-2026, Mr. Patil said that Karnataka’s upcoming Aerospace and Defence Policy 2026–2031 would place strong emphasis on developing integrated clusters for advanced electronic warfare systems, embedded software, electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (e-VTOL) technologies and payloads for the space sector.“Two years ago, the State government had approved investments worth ₹23,000 crore in the semiconductor and advanced Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) sectors. These investments are expected to generate more than 3,500 high-skilled engineering jobs. Applied Materials India is investing ₹4,851 crore, Lam Research ₹15,901 crore and Bharat Semi Systems ₹2,342 crore in Karnataka. To complement these investments, the government will integrate the State’s micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) into the global semiconductor supply chain,” he said.He said Karnataka’s vision extends well beyond manufacturing. “Companies should be able to undertake the entire value chain within the State — from design and development to prototyping, testing, certification and exports. The State government is fully prepared to partner with industry in achieving this objective,” he said.Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said that Karnataka is a hub for producing talented human resources and that the climate and culture here are unmatched by any other city in the country.“More than one lakh engineers pass out every year from 250 engineering colleges in Karnataka, which is a manufacturing hub for human resources. The State is emerging as a global hub of competence, with more than 900 Global Capability Centers (GCC) centres. Google has the largest campus outside the U.S. in Bengaluru,” he said.
