Apple may skip iPhone 19 Pro launch: When is the next iPhone coming?

Apple isn't following its usual iPhone naming cycle starting this year. After launching the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in September, the company is reportedly preparing to release the next major model as the iPhone 20 in 2027, potentially skipping the iPhone 19 altogether.The change would be tied to the 20th anniversary of the original iPhone, which went on sale in June 2007. Apple is expected to use the occasion for a significant redesign rather than simply introducing another yearly upgrade. But, those who have been waiting for a budget-level iPhone, we might not be very far from that launch.Apple's 2026 iPhone launch has already been different from previous years. The company introduced the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max in September, along with its first foldable iPhone, but the standard iPhone 18 was left out of the event.Reports indicate that the regular iPhone 18 could arrive between January and March 2027, alongside a more affordable iPhone 18e and a second-generation iPhone Air. This means Apple could have another iPhone launch just months after its September event. The reported change is linked partly to supply constraints affecting chips and memory, as well as limitations in semiconductor manufacturing. Pegatron, one of Apple's suppliers, has also indicated that the Pro models would launch in September while the standard iPhone 18 would follow in the first quarter of 2027.If those reports are accurate, Apple's next iPhone launch could therefore happen in about six months. However, the model expected at that time would still be called iPhone 18 rather than iPhone 19.iPhone 20 could launch next year The bigger change is expected later in 2027, when Apple could introduce its anniversary iPhone. Leaks have pointed to a design that uses considerably more glass, with curved edges and a display that extends closer to all four sides.Bloomberg's Mark Gurman previously described the device as a "mostly glass, curved iPhone without any cutouts in the display," while other reports have suggested a four-sided curved design.There is disagreement over how far Apple will take the curved display. Leaker Ice Universe has argued that a genuine quad-curved screen could be difficult to manufacture and that Apple may instead create a similar visual effect without making the panel itself fully curved.The display could also grow slightly. One leak suggests a 6.41-inch panel for the iPhone 20 Pro and a 6.96-inch screen for the Pro Max, compared with the 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch sizes used by the current Pro models.Apple could also further reduce the Dynamic Island and introduce solid-state buttons that use haptic feedback instead of physical movement.
